It’s really time to ask ourselves whether Hedi Slimane spent the last few years in a freezer without Wifi access. Judging from his eye bags and current collection for Saint Laurent you can definitely arrive at that conclusion. He still promotes the silhouette of the millennium years. The slim look that made Slimane world famous during his times at Dior. But time has, as opposed to Slimane’s sense for the Zeitgeist, not stopped.
At the moment voluminous silhouettes dominate the male looks. Taking a look at fashion of currently influential labels such as Raf Simons, Lanvin, and JUUN J. certainly would have done Hedi’s Saint Laurent A/W 2013 collection some good.
He can chase as many skinny Indie-boys up and down the catwalk as he likes, but he will definitely not influence the current developments in the fashion industry. For that he needs something more. Maybe a hint of innovation.
